Kerry in San Jose, CA
At the last minute I found out John Kerry would be speaking at San Jose State University this morning. With no knowledge of the campus it was pretty easy to determine which building contained the venue: simply follow the rooftop policemen to your presidential candidate of choice.
As is the usual for any large gathering of people who love their cars (read: Californians), while people were still filtering in an official approached the podium and read off the license plate of a car which was about to be towed. The extraordinary thing is that he followed the plate number with the owner's name. The secret service really does have access to everything.

In his introduction of Kerry, Lee Iacocca mentioned that he has only actively participated in three elections: Regan 84, Regan 88, and Bush 2000. The audience was willing to forgive him as he discussed the factors that lead to his decision to revoke his endorsement of Bush and instead stump for Kerry. Although this was the very beginning of the morning, it was also one of the most powerful moments of the event and really gave me some hope that all individuals are evaluating the candidates based on their plans, reputation, and abilities, not just their party's name.
This is the question that I've been asking people lately: I don't want to know who you're voting for but what factors or issues do you use to choose a candidate?
