Business Casual
"Net net," knowledge management 2.0, .doc "doc," The Man in the Yellow Suit, "the more they drank the more I got out of them." It's being scared of data loss only after someones laptop dies, of continuing meetings "offline," of being "execution oriented," and of "having the bandwidth do [that]." It's monday morning, it's 9:00am, you have an all-hands meeting to attend.
Conference rooms named after streets, chants at the end of meetings, printed agendas, business casual-- "worker blue" is out, everyone has moved on to more subtle hues. Stories of due diligence, flying from meetings in Boston to meetings in SF, conference calls in hotel bathrooms, and the cold, cold air conditioning in the new (empty) office.
Left on my windshield last night was a scary christian leaflet. One of the lines made me wonder, was this a sermon or an anthology of, albeit harsh, fortune cookie messages: "Try to stop acting like depraved parents and realize that you have parents."
There are things from Halifax, you do realize, and they will make it here, eventually.
3:06pm CST Update
Went to Mailboxes etc to mail a letter to Canada. I expected there to be
some reasonably priced option for sending a letter in a reasonable
timeframe to Canada, but as it turns out the cheapest was $20
something. Not worth it for a few days of time saved. At any rate, I had
no cash. The total for my envelope and postage was $.64 but there was
no cash in my pocket. Damn. I pulled out the credit card and decided
to check my right pocket just to make sure I didnt have any change.
In my pocket were exactly two quarters, one dime, and four pennies.
Today is a good day.
